It’s about time someone offers an affordable turbo RWD car to the tuning breed like you and me. Check out Hyundai’s latest incarnation, the Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai has been hard at work in the product-planning department, and is well aware of our community of tuners. In mid-2010 they will be releasing a Spec R version of the Genesis. It will come with track-tuned suspension, 19″ alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential and R-Spec badging. To further reduce cost and weight, they should also come without back-up indicators in the rear bumper, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls.

By now we’re sure you’ve heard the news that 2009 will be the last year Honda will sell the beloved S2000. In order to properly say goodbye we needed two things: first we needed to find a stock S2000 so that we could get a feel for passion the engineers put into the vehicle and second we needed to find a perfect example of stock vehicle exaggerated. While the car has gained a cult-like following in the US the task was a little harder than we expected. We set out to find a perfect balance of track performance and simple yet shockingly good looks; we found the perfect applicant at HIN LA.

If money weren’t an issue, I’d bet my rare collection of sealed vanilla-flavored dipped Yan Yan snacks from 1998, that we’d all have at least one Toyota Supra parked inside our garages, along with a Nissan Skyline, an Acura NSX, a Mitsubishi Evo and a “Uni-Market 5″ Donny Baknot-custom made Jeepney that holds 16 passengers. And nestled in between these rides would be a couple of sick Honda Ruckus scooters and Babylonian stack of A Bathing Ape shoe boxes filled with beautifully colored BAPE-stas that would be donated to the Goodwill because they’re “sooo Fall 2008.”

Now that’s something you don’t see every day. Check out APR’s Toyota Corolla Axio GT300 car designed to take on the Super GT300 class.

D o race cars turn us on? When do they not? Some might’ve guessed “no” at the thought of a Corolla but chassis fabricators, apr, are about to change your mind. What we saw at the TRD booth at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon was a Corolla worth popping boners for. But it’s not the kind of Corolla you’re used to - nor will it be one you’re going to see on US roads, at least, not any time soon. This is based off the new Corolla Axio platform and according to Toyota Motorsport News, apr is working in conjunction with Toyota to use the Axio in the Super GT GT300 class after retiring last year’s MR-S, a winner from last year’s Round 3 at Fuji Speedway, as well as champion in the GT300 class in years ‘02, ‘05 and `07. Representatives from apr stated, “The MR-S racecar was an excellent performer for racing but we are looking for another car that’s even better. We chose the Corolla Axio because the chassis has good aerodynamics and is better than the MR-S overall.” Powered by a 300hp naturally-aspirated V6 motor, the apr Axio is set up on a midship layout chassis and it’s said that the biggest rival this year will be Lexus’ IS racecar. Since race season hasn’t started as of presstime and this particular car hasn’t seen an official event, it’s hard to say how well it’ll actually perform. But if we chart apr’s racing history, the chances are good that it can come out on top once again. In other Axio news, TRD will be offering GT models with a turbocharged 1500cc motor (www.trdparts.jp/parts_axio-turbo.html) and in July, TRD will be organizing a Corolla Axio N2 one-make race at Fuji Speedway (www.advan.com/japanese/motor_sports/fan/065/index2.html).
